Privacy Policy
Updated 29 October 2026
Student Swipe helps students discover collaborators, communicate and complete SkillSprint projects. Contact the operator at support@studentswipe.app for privacy questions, access, correction or deletion requests.
Information used by the service
- Account information: your authentication identifier, email address and information supplied by the sign-in provider you choose. Sign in with Apple may supply an Apple private relay address. An app password is managed by Firebase Authentication.
- Profile information you submit: name, university, course, year, biography, skills, goals, availability, collaboration preferences, social links and profile photos.
- User content and activity: swipes, matches, direct and team messages, SkillSprints, project images and documents, tasks, milestones, evidence, endorsements, invitations and safety reports.
- Referrals: invite codes, inviter and qualifying account identifiers, qualification timestamps and reward counts. These records help prevent duplicate or replayed rewards.
- Notification information: device notification tokens and your notification preferences.
- Usage and diagnostics: app interactions and product events, installation/device identifiers, device and app information, crash reports and performance information collected through Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. Product events include profile-completion counts, matching, project actions and message type/length; our custom analytics events do not include message contents, profile text, names or email addresses.
Campus map and location
The optional “locate me” control requests device location permission to centre the campus map. The app does not store that coordinate in your Student Swipe profile. Map tiles are requested from OpenStreetMap servers; requests reveal your IP address, requested map area and normal network metadata to that provider. You can browse campuses without granting device location permission. Approximate region may also be inferred from IP addresses by service providers.
Purposes and sharing
We use information to operate sign-in, profile discovery, matching, messaging, project collaboration, referrals, notifications, safety, support and product reliability. Profile information is visible to other signed-in students through discovery and collaboration features. Messages and project content are shared with their intended participants under the app's access rules. Only share content you are entitled to share.
Google Firebase provides authentication, Firestore database services, notifications, analytics, crash reporting and compatibility storage for existing files. Supabase provides private media storage and authenticated media services. Apple handles Apple sign-in and iPhone push delivery; Google handles Google sign-in when selected. OpenStreetMap supplies map tiles. Providers may process information outside New Zealand. Service providers receive information needed to operate their services. We do not sell personal information. The app has no third-party advertising placements.
Retention and account deletion
We retain account information and content to operate the service while your account is active. You can edit your profile, manage notifications, block or report users, leave projects and delete your account in Settings. The account-deletion process removes account-associated data through the service's deletion workflow. Limited records may be retained for security, fraud prevention, disputes or legal requirements, including minimal referral records that prevent rewards being claimed again. Copies already received or independently saved by others, provider logs and backups may not disappear immediately.
Your choices and security
You can revoke device permissions in system settings and use the app's profile, notification and account controls. You may request access, correction or deletion by contacting support. We use authenticated access, access-control rules and encrypted network connections; no online service can guarantee absolute security. Avoid putting sensitive information in public profiles or project documents.
Contact and changes
For privacy requests or concerns email support@studentswipe.app. We may update this policy as the service changes and will show the updated date here. You can also use the account deletion page.
